With many starting to head home for their annual Chinese New Year celebrations, Petronas has launched its annual Coffee Break safety campaign, offering complimentary refreshments, vehicle inspections and a new competition to find the country’s safest driver.
The fuel retailer is giving away free coffee and snacks on February 2 and 3 and February 9 and 10 at 150 participating stations nationwide, along with free health checks by St John Ambulance of Malaysia at selected stations. Perodua owners will also get a free vehicle inspection.
In conjunction with the campaign, Petronas has also launched its National Safest Driver Challenge in collaboration with PLUS highway, Touch ‘n Go and GPS tracking and fleet management company Katsana. To participate, motorists will need to install the DriveMark app on their phone, which will track their driving behaviour and reward safe driving actions with positive scores.

Two grand prize winners will get 100,000 Mesra points (equivalent to RM1,000), RM1,000 Touch ‘n Go credit, 10,000 PLUSMiles points and RM10,000 DriveMark Personal Accident Coverage for 12 months. Another 50 special prize winners will get 5,000 Mesra points, RM50 Touch ‘n Go credit and RM10,000 DriveMark Personal Accident Coverage for three months, and there will also be 2,750 consolation prize winners.
Petronas Dagangan Berhad (PDB) managing director and CEO Datuk Seri Syed Zainal Abidin said, “PDB takes road safety seriously and the Petronas Coffee Break campaign is one of our flagship road safety campaigns, introduced since 1998. The campaign supports the government’s effort in reducing road accidents through reminding drivers to take regular breaks and drive safely towards their destinations.”
Minister of transport Anthony Loke added, “It is important for drivers to stay fresh and alert so that they are better equipped to drive safely and courteously. In this regard, PDB’s initiatives are most welcomed.”
